Position Summary

McCormick Taylor is actively seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist/Wildlife Technician for employment beginning in May 2024. This position would primarily service our transportation clients in Pennsylvania, and as such could be based out of our Harrisburg or State College, PA offices. The candidate will be responsible for conducting natural resource studies and preparing reports. Activities may include, but are not limited to, wetland/stream delineations/studies, wildlife habitat studies, assisting qualified biologists with wildlife surveys permitting, NEPA documentation.

  • Conduct delineations of Waters of the U.S. (including wetlands) in accordance with current regulatory requirements and guidelines, prepare supporting documentation, and conduct Jurisdictional Determination (JD) field views 
  • Conduct stream, wetland, and plant/wildlife habitat assessments/surveys
  • Assist with environmental regulatory and permitting processes and agency permit applications including but not limited to wetland/waterway permitting and the Endangered Species Act (federal and state)
  • Perform environmental assessment studies for permitting, wetland/stream delineations, watershed assessments, water quality permitting, compliance monitoring, and preparation of environmental documentation
  • Assist with compilation of various environmental documentation for multi-disciplinary projects
  • Utilize GPS, and ArcGIS, for project data collection and analysis

Qualifications

  • No prior experience required
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Wildlife Science or a related field
  • Technical and field experience preferred in wetland delineation, wildlife habitat assessments/surveys and other natural resource surveys, environmental data collection, compliance monitoring and environmental permitting
  • Knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance and documentation, and experience with field work (natural resource assessments) preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in the office and in the field
  • Strong ability to work both in a team environment and independently
  • Must have the ability to work in the field in different weather conditions
  • Must be able to physically navigate terrain in the field with equipment
  • Occasional weekend, holiday and overnight work may be required
  • Willing to receive pre-exposure rabies vaccination upon employment for potential mammal wildlife work, including bats
  • Able to travel and conduct field work in the mid-Atlantic area
